![]() "Lewis and Clark at the Mighty Pacific" - 36x48 When Lewis and Clark arrived at the Pacific Ocean, they ventured south of the Columbia River to what is now Pacific City. There their party made salt from sea water. I can't help but imagine that they were awestruck by the beauty of the Pacific Ocean, just as visitors today. In this painting, I tried to depict that feeling of wonder. Also, Sakajawea was such an important part of the expedition. She was strong, and made the arduous trip as a young mother. I couldn't help but place her on the beach, playing with her child...just as any mother today would do. |
