![]() PEREGRINE PARADISE
24 X 30 Oil on Canvas Several
years ago I was hiking a high mountain trail in Oregon. The trail
was above Mirror Lake, and the view to the north was
breathtaking....looking straight toward Mirror Lake and the snow
covered slope of Mt. Hood. While I was working my way along the
ridgetop, all of a sudden a peregrine falcon appeared...swiftly and
quietly riding the wind currents that brushed over the top of the
ridge. As soon as it appeared, it was gone...slipping silently
over the crest of the ridge. It was an amazing sight...the rocky
mountain ridge, the falcon, and the crystal clear high mountain sky
beyond. Shortly I arrived at the edge of the ridge, and a steep
rocky cliff dropped away below me. To my amazement, on the barren
rocks there were tough little rockplants blooming in the bright
sunlight. I took many photos of the beautiful rocks and
flowers on the cliff face, knowing that I would paint it someday...the
falcon, the cliff, and the flowers. Here is the result. I
hope it gives you a bit of the feeling of that place...and the falcon
that calls this beautiful place home.
