Stellar Sea Lions Oil - 24 x 30 This painting is a fun interplay of light and
movement. I've always been intrigued by Stellar Sea Lions.
In the Pacific Northwest they thrive along the rugged coastline.
They can often be seen basking on isolated rocks, with the sound
of their voices rising above the crashing waves. The mature bulls
are huge...sometimes 1,200 pounds, with nasty temperments that match
their size. Here I've portrayed the monarch bull surrounded by
his family. In this remote location, the sea lions are safe from
harm, and only a quick slide down the rock to their feeding ground.
The web image is of rather low resolution. The original is
much more detailed...right down
to teeth and whiskers on the sea lions. The painting is on
canvas stretched
on thick (1 1/2 inch) commercial grade stretcher bars. This gave me the
opportunity
to continue the painting around the edges. As such, it is suitable to
hang
without framing, or can be framed if desired.
