USS Vincennes - entering GH

"USS Vincennes - 1841 Entering Gig Harbor" - 18x24, oil

In 1841 Lt. Charles Wilkes explored the Puget Sound, and in the process, named Gig Harbor.  Today Gig Harbor is a beautiful maritime city.  In this painting, I tried to capture the feeling 160+ years ago as Lt. Wilkes entered Gig Harbor in his sloop of war, the USS Vincennes.  Then, as now, Mt. Rainier is the dominant landmark, and it sparkles in the reflective waters of Puget Sound.  What a gorgeous place this must have been at that time!  And.....it still is!
